The Concert

Broadway on Broadway® is the theatre community's annual season kick-off event, co-produced by The Broadway League and the Times Square Alliance. This free, outdoor concert gives audiences a sneak preview of this fall's new musicals, plus performances from Broadway's long-running favorites and special appearances from stars appearing in Broadway plays. 50,000 theatre fans join together to celebrate the beginning of a new season on the Great White Way, and Times Square as the Big Apple's most exciting family-friendly entertainment, dining, and shopping destination!

The first Broadway on Broadway in 1992 was conceived as a special outdoor party to welcome delegates to the Democratic National Convention, which was held in New York that year. The concert was so successful that it became an annual event, returning in July 1993 and 1994. In 1995 Broadway on Broadway moved to September so that shows previewing in the fall could participate. It has been held in mid-September ever since. Over the years, the concert has been broadcast on TV and radio, and webcast on the Internet.
