SO MUCH HAPPENED IN OZ BEFORE DOROTHY DROPPED IN… TICKETS GO ON SALE THROUGH TICKETMASTER ON SUNDAY, JUNE 29,FOR ‘WICKED’A NEW MUSICAL

Tickets went on sale through Ticketmaster (212-307-4100 or www.ticketmaster.com) on Sunday, June 29 for WICKED, a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Academy Award winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman (“My So Called Life,” “Once And Again” and “thirtysomething”) based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire. The musical is directed by 2003 Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, A Man of No Importance) and features musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who’s Tommy, How To Succeed…). WICKED, the untold story of the witches of Oz, is being produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone and comes to Broadway following a sold out, smash-hit San Francisco engagement (May 28 – June 29). The new musical began Broadway previews on Tuesday, October 7 and had its official press opening on Thursday, October 30 at the Gershwin Theatre (222 W. 51st St.).

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.

WICKED features set design by Eugene Lee (Ragtime, Show Boat, Tony Award winner for Candide and Sweeney Todd), costume design by Susan Hilferty (Tony nominated for the recent Into the Woods), lighting design by Kenneth Posner (Tony nominated for Hairspray) and sound design by Tony Meola (The Lion King and the current Man of La Mancha). Stephen Oremus is the show’s musical director. Orchestrations are by William David Brohn, with dance arrangements by James Lynn Abbott.

Also featured in the cast of WICKED will be Ioana Alfonso, Ben Cameron, Cristy Candler, Melissa Bell Chait, Marcus Choi, Kristoffer Cusick, Kathy Deitch, Melissa Fahn, Rhett G. George, Kristen Lee Gorski, Manuel Herrera, Kisha Howard, LJ Jellison, Sean McCourt, Corinne McFadden, Mark Myars, Jan Neuberger, Walter Winston ONeil, Andrew Palermo, Andy Pellick, Michael Seelbach, Lorna Ventura and Derrick Williams.

WICKED began Broadway previews on Tuesday, October 7 at the Gershwin Theatre, 222 West 51st Street, and had its official press opening on Thursday, October 30. The performance schedule is Tuesday evenings at 7 PM; Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM; matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 PM; Sundays at 3 PM. The scale of prices is $40 - $100. Tickets were available through Ticketmaster, 212-307-4100 (or you may visit www.ticketmaster.com) beginning Sunday, June 29. The Gershwin Theatre box office opened on August 18.
