The 2024 Jimmy Award® Winners Announced!

The winners of the 15th annual Jimmy Awards® were determined and announced last night in front of a sold-out audience at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. The coveted JimmyAwards for Best Performance by an Actress and Best Performance by an Actor were presented to Gretchen Shope, Sutton Foster Awards (East Lansing, MI) and Damson Chola Jr., Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards (Dallas, TX). Both winners were each presented with a check for the amount of $25,000 to further their education, presented by the Nederlander Organization.

The ceremony, hosted by Josh Groban was also live streamed and will remain available for viewing for the next 72 hours – through Thursday, June 27, 2024 – at www.jimmyawards.com. An alternate stream that includes ASL interpretation and closed captioning is also available.

The Jimmy Awards has been the catalyst for more than $6,000,000 in educational scholarships to date. This year, a total of 17 awards and scholarships were presented to participants.

Six finalists each received a $5,000 scholarship toward their future education, presented by MJ:

  • Fabiola Caraballo Quijada, Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards (Dallas, TX)
  • Peter Dessert, Blue Star Awards (Kansas City, MO)
  • Catherine Dosier, Spirit of the MACY Awards (La Mirada, CA)
  • Luke Martin, Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards (Las Vegas, NV)
  • Samia Posadas, The Monte Awards (Tucson, AZ)
  • James Thibault, The Stephen Sondheim Awards (New Haven, CT)

SCAD Achievement Scholarship, presented by Savannah College of Art and Design, a minimum $10,000 scholarship per year should they be admitted and choose to attend that college:

  • Fabiola Caraballo Quijada, Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards (Dallas, TX)

Additional awards winners each received a $2,500 scholarship:

Rising Star, presented by The John Gore Organization, for impressive advancement during the Jimmy Awards program

  • Samara Follette, Nebraska High School Theater Academy (Omaha, NE)

Best Dancer, presented by The Shubert Organization, for excellence in dance and movement

  • Alana Hogan, Broadway Star of the Future (Tampa, FL)

Spirit of the Jimmys, presented by Thomas Schumacher, for embodying the spirit of this musical theatre celebration

  • Hayden Poe, Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards - Shuler Hensley Awards (Atlanta, GA)

Outstanding Performance in an Ensemble, co-presented by M·A·C and No Guarantees, for outstanding collaboration during the Jimmy Awards program

  • Savannah Carrasco, Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards (Logan, UT)
  • Connor Egloff, Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards (Dayton, OH)
  • Spencer Kearns, The Broadway San Diego Awards (San Diego, CA)
  • Cameron Krauss, Philadelphia Independence Awards (Philadelphia, PA)
  • Sophie Rose, Discovery Awards (Tulsa, OK)

The recipients of the 2024 INSPIRING TEACHER AWARD included Jacqueline McLean, Le Roy Jr. Sr. High School (Rochester, NY) and Paul Fillingim, Ronald Reagan High School (San Antonio, TX) who were praised for their roles in providing valuable guidance and encouragement to their respective students during last year’s Jimmy Awards.

2018 Jimmy Award winner Andrew Barth Feldman returned to the Minskoff stage to present the Week-in-Review video.

Victoria Clark and 2021 Jimmy Awards Finalist Justin Cooley introduced the Feature Group number which featured a medley of songs saluting Broadway shows that have featured Jimmy Awards alumni throughout the years. The INSPIRING TEACHER AWARD, presented in memory of LUIGI CAIOLA, was announced by Ayana Jackson, currently starring in MJ.

Judges for the 2024 Jimmy Awards included Tony Award®-winning producers, award-winning casting experts, and industry leaders. Montego GloverJames Monroe IglehartKenny Leon, Joe Machota, Alan MenkenMarc PlattT. Oliver ReidTara RubinNick ScandaliosThomas Schumacher, Bernard Telsey, and Lia Vollack selected the evening’s winners. Preliminary judges who evaluated and cast the nominees into performance groups included Gabriel Barre, Kristian Charbonier, Stephanie Klapper, Sammy Lopez, Kevin Metzger-Timson, and Dale Mott.

The annual talent showcase featured all 102 nominees performing on a Broadway stage following an amazing week in New York City where rehearsals and private coaching took place at The Juilliard School. The industry coaches who mentored the nominees included: English Bernhardt, Janet DacalColin Hanlon, MaryAnn HuLeonard Joseph, Adam Kantor, Telly LeungAdam J. LevyDesi Oakley, Eliseo RománSteven Telsey, and EJ Zimmerman.

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards®, better known as the Jimmy Awards®, is a coast-to-coast celebration of outstanding student achievement, recognizing individual talent in vocal, dance, and acting performance. The program impacts approximately 130,000 students who participate in regional high school musical theatre competitions sponsored by presenters of Touring Broadway productions throughout the United States. The 2024 Jimmy Awards anticipates welcoming more than 100 nominees from over 50 cities across the country as they make their debuts on a Broadway stage. During this exhilarating talent showcase, a panel of judges will select two students to receive the coveted awards of Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress. Named for Broadway impresario James M. Nederlander, the Jimmy Awards has been the catalyst for more than $6,000,000 in educational scholarships.

Founded in 2009 by Nederlander Alliances LLC, Pittsburgh CLO, and Broadway Education Alliance (BEA), the mission of the NHSMTA is to raise the profile of musical theatre in schools, honor dedicated teachers, and inspire the next generation of performers and enthusiasts. Numerous participants have already been cast in Broadway, Touring, and West End productions. As of this spring, 67 Jimmys alumni have performed on Broadway or on Tour.

Presented by The Broadway League Foundation Inc., the NHSMTA invites two nominees from each local regional ceremony to New York City for a 10-day theatre intensive that includes coaching sessions, training, and rehearsals led by some of Broadway’s most accomplished professionals.
